Giving birth is like taking your lower lip and forcing it over your head. ~ Carol Burnett

One of my favorite topics to talk about is “Starting Over.” It is rich in content and not something that can be taught, learned or mastered in an hour, week or month. Starting over, transition and transformation are emerging in importance. I am witnessing people from all ages and genders going through the process of knowing their lives were meant for something greater. I find the entirety of this journey to be an exciting time; however, many others find only the launching of this idea to be fun, and what comes after the initial “Hooray, I’m saying yes to me!” is arduous.

What I find interesting is how few people recognize that they have been starting over all of their lives. When you went from nursery school to grade school, you started over. Every year you were promoted to the next grade, you started over. Switching schools, going to college, moving to a new city, beginning a new job or career, going back to school, starting a relationship, ending a relationship, marriage, divorce, becoming a parent, purchasing your first home, retirement and empty nesting are all tremendous examples of starting over. You’ve done it! You’ve done it many, many times! Yet in those instances you probably didn’t label it as starting over. All of these events began with some degree of overwhelm or panic ~ a handful probably felt more like “Oh Sh@t!”

    • Take the time today to recognize how many moments you’ve had in your life where you started over, recreated your life, and gave birth to something new. CELEBRATE!

Yes, starting over is giving birth, and when you think about it, the process of giving birth just ain’t pretty! Whether you’ve actually delivered a child or not, I’m pretty sure you’ve seen at least one video, been in the delivery room or have had friends share their experience. First there’s the 10 months, not nine like you were lead to believe, of a child (a divine idea) growing inside of you. During these ten months (the journey toward the manifestation of your divine idea), you are enveloped with a wide range of emotions. There is elation followed by fear. The very thing I want in my life will actually be realized! Are you kidding me? Who do I think I am to take on this level of responsibility? Now I’m going to be held accountable! Your body is physically going through changes and there is a lot of discomfort (chemicalization ~ your ego is fighting against what you heart knows you deserve). Bloating, headaches, back pain, exhaustion, vomiting and weight gain.

With all of the less than attractive aspects of the birthing process, there is still an incredible amount of joy and love surrounding you. The bumps in the road and unexpected forks allow you to learn more about what makes you fabulous. You grow and become aware of how important you are in this creation. You are supplying the nutrients and fuel to your divine idea! There are many moments of celebration along the way: seeing the seed of this divine idea, hearing the heartbeat, and watching it grow. Becoming alive, alert and aware of your birthing process allows you to enjoy the good that is coming your way.

Of course, then comes the day that the divine idea is manifested. There is screaming, pushing, straining, swearing, goop, messiness and you begin to question all over again why in the world you thought this was a good idea. But then something happens. You are able to see past the ick that coated your creation. It is clean, pure and radiates unconditional love.

When you made the decision to say, “Yes, I choose me,” your adventure began. Allow yourself to be open to the entire process. The messiness that shows up during this journey does so because you are healing from old beliefs and past experiences. You are now strong and courageous enough to work with and through obstacles that had kept you anchored to the past. You are no longer willing to accept just enough. You are open and eager to receive all the good that has always been yours to have.

Humanity’s misfortune is when we don’t realize the very gifts we are! We don’t serve the rest of the world or ourselves by playing small. Live your life big! Own your truth! We must embrace the knowing that we deserve to live a life we love, one that supports who and what we are. We need to be willing to say, ‘Yes! I choose me!’
