“Social Media is not a tactic or a strategy. It’s not about isolationism or the loss of the human connection. Social Media is about expansion, engagement, connection and conversation. It’s about being a part of something bigger than ourselves, and the tremendous opportunity we have to learn from one another and affect change. More and more individuals and companies are employing the power behind social media (tweeting, blogging, posting) to become a part of the conversation and engage with a global community.
Now when I think about the concept behind Social Media, the Butterfly effect comes to mind. When a butterfly flaps its wings they say the movement will have a significant effect on wind strength and weather systems throughout the world. When I blog, post to my Facebook professional page, re-tweet a news article, or upload a YouTube video of “Motivating Monday’s with Michele” to my social network profiles, my thoughts and these actions have the potential to be read and viewed by thousands of people. Many of those individuals will be inspired to act and have their voices heard and could either forward my posts, tweets and uploads or create their own which will have the potential to be read and viewed by thousands. In turn those individuals will be inspired and so on and so on. Social Networking has lead many to reach out via email which turns into a phone call which turns into a meeting which turns into networking which turns into collaboration. This isn’t the loss of the human connection. This is a gift!”
